The Department of Internal Medicine A cares for patients referred to it from the emergency medicine department with a wide range of diseases, mainly related to cardiology, infectious diseases and hematology – particularly clotting, as well as lung and gastroenterology diseases. The department also receives patients referred to it by the Hematology Clinic and the Lung Institute for specific care.  In addition, the department maintains an Intensive Care Unit, including artificial respiration equipment and round-the-clock monitoring.

The department works in cooperation with the consulting department, and participates in discussions regarding the medical conditions of its patients. Extensive academic activities take place within the department, including clinical meetings, medical imaging meetings, a Journal Club, and more. Moreover, the department conducts basic research in the Lipids Laboratory at the Technion Faculty of Medicine.
