The Department of Dermatology treats the entire range of skin diseases. It specializes in molecular biology of genetic skin diseases, including pathology of the skin – using histology, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, and electron microscopy systems. Furthermore, the department provides various types of phototherapeutic treatments, patch tests for contact dermatitis, and computerized monitoring, with dermatoscopic examinations of moles and early detection of melanoma.
The department maintains a dermatopathology service, which includes conventional microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and fluorescent and electron microscopy.
In addition, the department maintains a psoriasis day care center and a phototherapy unit equipped with the most advanced equipment, including targeted phototherapy, in order to treat a wide variety of skin disorders.
The department research team conducts a number of ongoing research projects including the molecular-genetic basis of skin diseases, a study of the frequency and sensitivity of specific contact allergens in Israel, cutaneous lymphomas and pseudolymphomas, and more.
