The Anesthesiology Department is responsible for providing anesthesia, sedation and analgesia services to adult and pediatric patients during operative or diagnostic and interventional procedures and throughout the postoperative period, as well as monitored treatment for patients in unstable condition. In addition, the department is responsible for the Pre-operative Clinic, which evaluates and prepares patients at high risk for scheduled operations.

The department provides treatment for acute pain on a round-the-clock basis, as part of the "Hospital Without Pain" project at Rambam Healthcare Campus. This also includes analgesia during childbirth and assistance to the different hospital departments in resuscitation, mechanical ventilation and invasive processes.

The department staff uses anesthesia techniques and monitoring devices that are among the most advanced available, and emphasizes the use of fast-acting, low-risk anesthesia agents.

The Anesthesiology Department is affiliated with the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine of the Technion, and provides academic training to its students; it is also accredited for specialization in anesthesiology and pain management. The members of the department's team of experts are included among the examiners in testing for specialization in the anesthesiology field. Furthermore, the department team conducts clinical studies in its laboratories at the Faculty of Medicine.
