The Laboratory Medicine Division at Rambam Healthcare Campus carries out a wide range of laboratory tests; these support the medical diagnostic processes that enable the hospital to provide the highest level of care to our patients. The tests are carried out in several dedicated laboratories, including: the Urgent Testing Lab (mainly biochemical and hematological testing as well as for gasses in the blood), Biochemistry and Hematology Labs, the Blood Bank, and Labs for Microbiology, Virology, Immunology, Endocrinology, Toxicology, Cytogenetics, Cytology and Pathology. In addition, the division also provides specialized blood testing services to the general public. The division performs some 4 million tests annually.
The Laboratory Medicine Division maintains a comprehensive quality control system, and was the first in the country, in 2000-2001, to comply with the Standards Institute's certification criteria. The laboratories are checked on an annual basis by the Standards Institute or another authorized external agency, to evaluate their compliance and to extend their professional certification.
The division is diligent in constantly improving the accuracy of its tests, and in adding new and improved tests.
In addition to supplying the entire range of standard tests, the division also develops new tests and carries out clinical and basic research, in cooperation with physicians from the hospital, and researchers from the Technion's Faculty of Medicine and the Rappaport Institute for Research in the Medical Sciences, as well as with biotechnology companies.
