The Social Work Department provides dedicated, professional assistance to patients and their families, to cope with their illness during hospitalization and afterwards. Furthermore, the department’s social workers have a major role in building a discharge plan that suits patients’ needs and ensures the patient's wellbeing, while maintaining a level of functioning and quality of life that is as high as possible. The social workers provide professional help in cases of trauma, crisis and violence in the family. For these cases, the department’s social workers are on call around the clock.
The department services are provided to civilians and military personnel. The department also operates group sessions in a number of departments in the hospital, to support patients in coping with specific illnesses and the treatments for them. In the adult and pediatric oncology departments, psycho-social treatment for individuals, families and in groups is given.
All of the social workers in the department have academic degrees and are experienced in social work in a healthcare setting. They have a comprehensive approach to the needs of the patients and their families, based on the principles of bio-psycho-social treatment, and in accordance with the Social Work Law and the Code of Ethics, the Patient Rights Law, the Penalty Law and the guidelines of the Ministry of Health.
The department conducts a number of research projects addressing the coping mechanisms of patients and their families with illness, and evaluating psycho-social intervention methods. The department team is also involved in teaching and training in its field.
