Occupational Therapy is a rehabilitation health care profession, which provides services to people whose ability to function in daily life has been disrupted by physical illness or injury, developmental problems, the aging process and mental or emotional illness. The goal of O.T is to improve functioning and quality of life, and to help people get involved in occupation and activities that are meaningful for them. The service is given individually or in groups, and includes evaluation, therapeutic intervention, follow up and recommendations. O.T service in Rambam, is given to inpatients in various departments of the hospital, as well as to people who are referred to ambulatory care. The O.T services in Rambam are divided into three main fields: physical rehabilitation, pediatrics and mental health. The department staff is highly qualified and uses advanced technologies for evaluation and treatment. The department of O.T is involved in studies that are conducted in its field, such as the 'support splint' – a clinical trial with neurosurgical intensive care inpatients; a study on disorders in sensory regulation in children with epilepsy, and a study that assesses everyday functions and characteristics of the writing process in individuals suffering from Parkinson's disease.
