Dr. Hanna Sprecher received her PhD in molecular virology at the Faculty of Medicine, Hebrew University, Jerusalem , Israel. She completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in the human genetics at the Weizmann Institute, Rehovot, Israel and at the Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, israel.
In 1992 she joined the Faculty of Biology at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology as a research associate, where she investigated the mechanisms of resistance to anti-cancer drugs. In 1997 she established a laboratory dedicated entirely to the molecular diagnostics of microbial pathogens at Carmel Medical Center, Haifa, Israel.
Between 1999-2000, she spent one year as a visiting scientist at the Laboratory of Microbiology, Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia, USA. She then joined Rambam Health Care Campus, where she was appointed Director of The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory in 2000 and irector of the Division of Laboratory Medicine in 2010.
Dr. Sprecher has published over 40 peer-reviewed research articles. Her major areas of interest include the molecular epidemiology of infectious diseases and the development of novel diagnostic approaches for the detection of microbial pathogens. Her laboratory is recognized as a referral center for the molecular diagnostics of infectious agents and hosts the National Center for the Diagnosis of Fungal Pathogens.
