Professor Renato Finkelstein is the Director of the Division of Infectious Disease at the Rambam Health Care Campus. Professor Finkelstein was born in Brazil and after graduating from the Faculty of Medicine of Porto Alegre, Brazil, he immigrated to Israel. He received his medical training in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Rambam Medical Center. This was followed by a clinical fellowship in infectious diseases at Hadassah University Hospital and a research fellowship at Detroit Medical Center (Wayne State University, Michigan).

Dr. Finkelstein’s main medical interest is related to the broad spectrum of hospital-acquired infections, in particular surgical site infections, intensive care-related infections and antimicrobial drug resistance. Professor Finkelstein is one of the pioneers in Israel in the field of hospital epidemiology and has developed many programs on infection control and prevention.
