Professor Shmuel Eidelman was born and educated in Johannesburg, South Africa. He is a board-certified internist and gastroenterologist. His graduate training in gastroenterology was completed at the University of Washington in Seattle.
He has worked at the Rambam Medical Center as Head of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, and later as Director of Medical Education.
During the years 1995-2001, Professor Eidelman was President of the Scientific Council of the Israel Medical Association, the organization that administers and supervises the specialization of physicians in Israel.
He is currently a professor at the University of Haifa’s School of Public Health, and is Head of the Center for the Study of the Doctor–Patient Relationship in that institution. He continues to serve at Rambam Medical Center as a gastroenterologist and as Coordinator of the Residency Programs.
