Dr. Bentur is a graduate of the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa. He obtained clinical training in the Intensive Care Unit and Department of Internal Medicine “D” at Rambam Medical Center. He then completed a three year Fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Hospital for Sick Children at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Bentur is Chair of the Israel Society of Toxicology and is a member of the Antidote Committee of the Israel Ministry of Health. He is also a member of several other national committees dealing with preparedness to multi-casualty toxicological incidents, children’s safety and drug registration.
He is a Senior Editor of the Israel Journal of Emergency Medicine and is a member of the editorial board of Harefuah (journal of the Israel Medical Association).
Dr. Bentur's main research interests are epidemiology of acute poisonings, poisonous plants and animals and pharmacokinetics and toxicokinetics of drugs and chemicals.
