Michael Aviram, biochemist, is a full Professor at the Technion Faculty of Medicine and Rambam Health Care Campus. Aviram graduated from the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, in 1978.Aviram is a Technion permanent distinguished lecturer. He has been a visiting Professor at MIT, Columbia University, the University of Washington, the University of Michigan, and the University of Illinois. Professor Aviram is one of the leading experts on cholesterol and a key contributor to cardiovascular diseases research. His research focuses on cholesterol oxidation as related to cardiovascular diseases development, and the protective role of dietary antioxidants (pomegranate, red wine, licorice root, olive oil). He is the author of more than 400 published original papers and he has received numerous prizes, including the NIH Fogarty Award in the United States, the Pfizer award in Canada, the France's Pasteur Institute Senior Investigator Arcol International Prize, and the Technion Hershel Rich innovative award.
