The Rambam Medical Center administration is pleased to announce an agreement with the Legacy Heritage Foundation for the construction of the Rambam Research Institute. The contribution toward the creation of the institute will enable the fulfillment of the plans to build a biotechnology tower (which is shown below in the attached image) on Rambam’s new campus. The Rambam administration believes this is a step forward for Rambam Medical Center’s international standing.
The biotechnology tower will be one of the cornerstones of the new Rambam campus, which is now taking place and includes: an underground hospital for states of emergency (a donation of Sami Ofer), a new children’s hospital, named after Ruth Rapaport (a donation of the Rapaport family), a new oncology hospital (a donation from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous), and a giant underground parking lot for the benefit of Rambam’s patients and staff.
A state-of-the-art medical center striving to be a leader in its field on an international level, must excel in three basic areas: outstanding manpower, advanced medical facilities, and top-line research efforts that will promote medical discoveries for the benefit of the public’s health. In the first two areas, Rambam is making every effort to be at the forefront of medical centers, but now we are also on the brink of a new era in research at Rambam Medical Center.
Rambam and the Legacy Heritage Foundation are building the Rambam Research Institute based on the models of leading university research institutes around the world. The new Rambam Research Institute will integrate medical, scientific and clinical programs while absorbing clinical physicians-researchers who combine clinical patient care and cutting-edge laboratory research.
The Rambam administration and the Legacy Heritage Foundation have designated a number of research areas and facilities as top priority, including:
1. Diabetes and metabolic health
2. Coronary and blood vessel diseases
3. Applied genetics center
4. Center for brain and nervous system trauma research
5. Kidney diseases
6. Autoimmune and inflammatory diseases
7. Bone and joint therapy research center
8. Research programs for clinical use of stem cells and cancer treatment
9. Public health research center
10. A research center for infectious diseases, bacterial molecular genetics and the prevention of infections in hospitals
