On July 21, 2010, The Rambam Maimonides Medical Journal (RMMJ), a quarterly scientific –medical journal of Rambam Health Care Campus (RHCC) was presented to the Knesset Committee of Science and Technology. Among those in attendance were Committee Chairman MK Meir Shitrit, Minister of Science Daniel Hershkowitz and other MKs.  The free Internet magazine contains medical and research articles on different areas written by central international figures in medicine, research and science.

While other such magazines are available in the world of science and medicine, access to them is by payment, for subscribers only.  Further, there are few similar magazines supported by medical centers.

RMMJ was praised by both committee Chairman Meir Shitrit and Minister Hershkowitz. MK Shitrit described how he enjoyed reading the article on Maimonides, and Minister Hershkowitz spoke of the importance of the RHCC doctors’ efforts to distribute high-quality medical and research knowledge. Rambam figures at the meeting included hospital Director Prof. Rafi Beyar; RMMJ Editor-in-Chief Prof. Shraga Blazer; Prof. Michael Aviram; Prof. Jacob Rowe and Prof. Ian Gralnek.

During the event, Prof. Rafi Beyar stated that RHCC will issue the magazine four times a year. “Until today we learned from journals from around the world. Now the time has come for the world to learn from Israeli journals,” added Prof. Beyar.

Prof. Shraga Blazer said, “This idea has been around for ten years and I am happy that it is now being realized. We want to present medicine with feeling and with compassion. The idea is to make medicine accessible to the public at large.”
