Rambam recently made an impressive mark in the international arena when Prof Myriam Ben- Arush, head of the Department of Oncological Hematology and Assistant Director of Meir Children’s Hospital, received France’s most prestigious award: the French Legion of Honor.
Prof Myriam Ben-Arush, Director of the Department of Pediatric Oncology at Meir Children’s Hospital at Rambam Health Care Campus, recently returned to her homeland, France, to receive France’s greatest award of honor. During her brief trip, Prof Ben-Arush also visited the university where she earned her MD.

At a festive ceremony held on December 4, 2010, at the Municipality of Dijon, Prof Ben-Arush was awarded the French Legion of Honor for her contribution to the community and excellence in medicine. Prof Ben-Arush joined the respected list of Israelis who have received the award in the past, among them Moshe Dayan , Shimon Peres (twice), Amos Oz, Daniel Barenboim, Aharon Appelfeld, Aharon Barak, Avner Shalev (Chairman of Yad Vashem) and others.
Mayor of Dijon, Mr François Rebsamen, presented the award in the name of Prime Minister Nikola Sarkosi. Participating in the ceremony were the directors of Dijon’s University Hospital and Cancer Center. Also present was Mr Guy Wildenstein, representative of the French Parliament of French citizens living abroad, representatives from the organization France Israel, from the Dijon Jewish community, and of course family members of Prof Ben Arush. Prof Ben- Arush was born in France and received her MD at the Faculty of Medicine in Dijon.

In addition to her positions at Rambam, Prof Ben-Arush serves as the national coordinator for treatment of children suffering from Burkitt lymphoma, as well as sarcomas.  Prof Ben-Arush was also appointed to the position of chairman of the Ethics Committee of the Association of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and is the chair of the Israel Society of Pediatric Hematology Oncology and a member of the Psycho-Social Committee of the International Association for Pediatric Oncology and the Pediatric Oncology Organization of the USA. Prof Ben-Arush specialized in pediatric oncology in Paris, France, and in St. Justine Hospital in Montreal, Canada. In the past, Prof Ben-Arush was awarded the Prize of Excellence of Israel’s Ministry of Health, as well as an honor from the International Medical Organization in recognition of her activities.
