Moses Ben-Maimon, called Maimonides, and also the Rambam from the Hebrew acronym for Rabbi Moses Ben-Maimon, was a preeminent medieval Jewish rabbi, physician, philosopher, and one of the greatest Torah scholars of the Middle Ages. He was born in Córdoba, Spain and lived in Morocco, Israel, and Egypt where he was head of the Jewish community. His fourteen-volume Mishne Torah was the first systematic code of Jewish law. Guide to the Perplexed was his philosophic opus on Judaic theology. By day, he personally supervised the health of the Sultan of Egypt, as well as other members of the royal family. In the evenings, he treated all who sought his help and was acclaimed far and wide as a conscientious, skilled, and compassionate physician, devoted to the well-being of his patients.
At Rambam Health Care Campus, we are proud to bear his name, eternally committed to thisgreat rabbi-physician's lasting philosophical and medical legacy.

Preserve the strength of my body and of my soul that they ever be ready to cheerfully help and support rich and poor, good and bad, enemy as well as friend. In the suffering individual let me see only the human being. Enlighten my mind that it recognize what presents itself and comprehend what is absent or hidden. Let it not fail to see what is visible, but do not permit it to assume the power to see what cannot be seen, for delicate and indefinite are the bounds of the great art of caring for the lives and health of your living creations.
The Prayer of Maimonides, attributed to Rabbi Moses Ben-Maimon, epitomizes the outlook and mission of the medical staff at Rambam Health Care Campus.
